Australian NGER Scheme

Years are Australian financial years: 2024 = FY2024-25 (July 2024 – June 2025).

Generation is gross (as reported to NGER, including each plant's own use), because the climate pathways we compare against count electricity generated gross. open-assets.ai shows electricity sent out by default, so its intensity is a little higher; switch its charts to Gross to match the figures here.

About Our Data Sources

We use publicly available data: company and plant data reported to regulators, and published climate scenarios. Each source was chosen for its coverage and quality. Sources can contain errors and are revised from time to time; we update our data when new releases come out.

Licences and citations

Our own analysis is licensed under CC BY 4.0. Third-party data stay under their own licences and terms, which may be more restrictive. We publish results derived from them, not the underlying data, unless their licence allows it. Please cite the original sources below when you use results based on them.

Sector Methodologies

Steel Sector

The steel sector uses the Asset-based Planning Approach (APA), combining GEM GIST plant-level data with Kampmann's production-asset workbook. Emission factors are technology-specific and time-varying, with BF-BOF improving at 0.5%/year from a 2020 reference based on JRC methodology.

Coverage: 26 companies, 800+ plants, 229 company-year pairs (2014-2024).

Comparison Sources

Each sector supports multiple data sources for cross-validation. Steel uses APA (default), Kampmann ALD, ClimateTrace v5.2.0, and company sustainability reports. Fossil fuels uses InfluenceMap Carbon Majors (default) with GEM/Urgewald and company reports for comparison.
